Frequently asked questions about diameter 14.5 mm
What does diameter 14.5 mm mean for contact lenses?
The diameter (DIA) is the total width of the lens from edge to edge in millimetres. Soft lenses usually range from 13.8 to 14.5 mm so that they cover the cornea completely; 14.5 mm is a common value within that range. During fitting the diameter is chosen together with the base curve so that the lens sits centred and moves slightly with each blink.
Where do I find the diameter of my contact lenses?
Every blister and box shows the diameter as DIA (for example “DIA 14.5”), next to the base curve as BC and the power as PWR or D. The same values are on the lens prescription you received at your fitting. All lenses on this page have DIA 14.5; each card shows the base curve, and you can narrow the list down by it.
How are diameter and base curve related?
Both values describe the fit: the base curve gives the curvature of the back surface, the diameter the size of the lens. A flatter base curve fits looser at the same diameter, a larger diameter fits slightly tighter at the same base curve. That is why the two values are always fitted as a pair – and why this page shows the base curve of every lens.
